Ah but they’re not testing it, they’ve already impletmented it. Not technically a lie! Classic corpospeak.

Everytime I hear whining about youtube ads I’m reminded there are people who are still too dumb to use an adblocker.

Not everyone knows how to install add free YouTube-app to their smart tv.

That doesn’t make them dumb. Most of them don’t even know such things exist. Let alone know even where to start if they want to have it on their tv.

Literally a 5 second google about “how do I get rid of ads on my smart TV” would present you half a dozen options.

I have little sympathy for people who never even try to seek any solution to their problems.

Searching that turns up information about how my particular TV OS (WebOS) has no way of getting around Youtube ads. Not every smart TV runs Android.

And no, a pihole won’t do it, either. I’ve tried.

Tried a pi-hole here for Roku, ads stopped loading when I stopped running pi-hole

Yeah right. Easy to say if you’re tech oriented. To most of my friends and family this is like foreign language.

“Use AdGuard for Android TV: Sideload the AdGuard app to block ads across apps and browsers.

Block Ads on YouTube (Android TV): Install third-party apps like SmartTube to watch YouTube without ads.

Block Domains at the Router: Use router settings to block ad domains like samsungads.com for Samsung or lgad.cjpowercast.com for LG.”

I listen to podcasts while driving using Amazon music. They recently disabled the ability to fast forward over ads using the steering wheel buttons via Android Auto. You can only fast forward now through the full phone app. Someone is going to get in a car accident because of this.

I’m more worried about people who create content you come to YouTube for. Should they work for free for your entertainment?

Inb4 „they don’t get paid much anyway” etc

Right, i thought we wanted corporations to offer af free plans and we would support that. But here we are.

YouTube premium family is amazing. It’s cheap, i can give my keys to my friends and they didn’t get blocked for being outside my home network, i get ad free YouTube on my phone and cars. It’s actually saved me money because i cancelled xmradio because i can get everything i need on YouTube.

I don’t mind paying but I’m tired of all the price hikes. I was salty earlier today and went through my emails and here’s the timeline of price changes. I was annoyed in 2023 but understood it was the end of my grandfathering price back when it was just music. But then to jump up another 25% after three years? Ridiculous.

        $26.99 - May 2026

        $22.99 - April 2023

$14.99 - October 2020 (change to YouTube Premium)

        $14.99 - June 17, 2016 (Google Music family plan)

Of i feel ya on the price hikes, but everything it’s going up. The dollar isn’t what it used to be, and with the money printer going this month is only going to get worse
