Memory costs are a convenient excuse for a trend that was already obvious: Ultra phones charge double for marginal gains over much cheaper alternatives. The Pixel 9a exists and performs fine, the Nothing Phone delivers a better vibe at half the price, and most users cannot tell the difference between a real Ultra and a well-priced midrange with good cameras. Manufacturers love the Ultra label because it lets them justify the margin without earning it through genuine innovation.
