I love reading fiction and studying languages. My undergraduate degree is in Spanish. I’ve been studying Italian the past three years (B2 level certified). I’v also studied Korean up to a B2 level (only TOPIK I certified level 2).
In undergraduate school I did a translation (Spanish to English) of a professor’s short story that was published in my University’s literature magazine.
I’m looking for any Spanish, Italian, or Korean aspiring writers who may be interested in working with me so I can gain experience translating short stories (nothing close to a novella please) or single chapters of a longer work and create a personal portfolio.
I would like to take on one short project at a time, I would do this for free obviously, in the hopes of creating a portfolio. So, I would also want permission from the author to use the translation in a portfolio. When I feel confident enough to start bidding on freelance projects, I will need portfolios and possible author recommendations.
Disclaimer: I would never upload your work to AI, however I would take advantage of AI as a ‘librarian’ assistant and translation assistant to cross reference any words or short phrases in contexts of other written works, dialects, or slang. That is of course only if I don’t understood the word (potential slang or dialect) or phrase (idiomatic expressions, etc.) from looking up the individual words in the native language’s dictionary entries. AI would be my last resort after dictionaries, basic google searches for the phrase etc. In other words, I pledge to use AI responsibly.
