And it’s this paradox that many are grappling with at the moment – in this case, residents with a Facebook account can hardly argue against Meta’s need for physical infrastructure, and the same logic applies to users of streaming platforms, ecommerce websites, cloud storage, AI chatbots and so much more.

So many things wrong with this line of logic (which implicitly is attributed to IDCA, which must stand for I Don’t Care at All).

Second, for some people, Facebook is necessary for work, thanks to the company monopolizing the concept of a town square for a lot of communities. So yes it kind of is “society” now in this cyberpunk dystopia.

Finally, even if somebody explicitly endorsed that social network, that doesn’t mean they necessarily agree with the AI data centers that use multiples more resources and are unnecessary for Facebook’s running.
