Hello all,

I’m looking for an alternative to my current notes app notally. It’s a great app but I am only able to make to-do lists or plain text notes, and I can’t combine both (like plain text with check boxes sometimes). I would like to automate some notes too so I think app with markdown support will allow me to do both.

What I’m looking for :

  • FOSS
  • Markdown support
  • Good looking with tiling view
  • SIMPLE, I already have Joplin for work purpose but it’s too heavy, I want an app that opens instantly like google notes or apple notes (or notally lol).

Do you have some recommendations ?

Thanks a lot

Does Joplin really take a long time to start up compared to the rest? I just got it downloaded and synced with my server yesterday and so far it opens up almost instantly every time.

I mean, it takes only 3 seconds to open lol but it feels like it’s not designed to take notes on-the-go like groceries lists.

Thanks for your suggestion, it looks great but no tiling view and I don’t find it good looking…

Markor is, by far, the best.

They did start accepting AI-generated contributions a while ago, but the latest release (2.16.1) is still clean.

In addition to Markdown docs and to-dos, it also supports Org-Mode, AsciiDoc, ZimWiki, todo.txt, and (of course) plaintext.

However, it does not have a tiled view.

Isn’t tiling just the OS split screen? You’ll excuse the dumb question, I barely use multitasking features as it is.

I thought OP meant being able to see notes arranged in a grid with text previews (á la Google Keep), rather than the usual filename list.

If it’s multitasking tiling they want, then Markor does do that, as it supports multiple windows.

Markor makes you pick a title before you can type and the quick notes feature doesn’t quite ameliorate the issue for me so I specifically went looking for the same and found one called Markleaf on F Droid that does what I want. It has a nice tagging feature.

It looks perfect but I don’t find how to make tiling/grid view ? I enable it in settings but nothing happened.

For me the golden standard for “simple” are Fossify and SecUSo. You can find all their apps on F-Droid.

I haven’t tried their specific apps for notes, so I’m not sure about the bullet points 2 and 3 but maybe they are worth a try.
