It is annoying that my package manager has ads in when almost every other part of my phone doesn’t. Wasn’t there some recent legal ruling forcing Google to allow third party app stores the right to distribute Play Store apps or something like that? I know we’ve got Aurora but I feel they’re always one step away from being banned by Google.
google should allow third party app stores, I believe, but I’m fairly certain that doesn’t mean the play store’s exact content may be served by others.
I would use Aurora more, but some apps (such as whatsapp) simply don’t seem to work when installed through there.
Google will additionally have to carry third-party app stores on Google Play and permit those competing app stores to have access to Google Play’s catalog of apps unless they opt out.
The court-ordered changes are limited to the U.S. and run for three years, through 2029.
Play store needs an overhaul in general. It’s pretty bad rn

I try to avoid it as much as I can, the amount of ads and pop-ups make me feel so yucky.
Even the notifications are just ads and spam.

Looks like it’s part of the same legal case, USA only though so I doubt much will come of it
Oh, neat. I hadn’t caught that.
Shame if it were to remain US only, but it’s another foot in the door at least.
Yeah it would be nice if anything does come out of it but I’m not expecting much
