Note: most LG ad and telemetry domains are not blocked by the default Pi-hole blocklist!
You can add smart TV blocklists easily enough
I use Perflyst SmartTV List: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Perflyst/PiHoleBlocklist/master/SmartTV.txt
Could not add to gravity database
The item is already present.
Thanks past me! Good job!
My experience with roku is that if you block all the telemetry stuff by blocking roku with a wildcard, it works for about a month at a time and then breaks certain apps like clockwork and makes you re-download them to restore function, meaning you have to unblock the roku domain and allow it to collect all the stored data.
Idk if its still like that, I did a factory reset and left them offline years back, but just an fyi that this advice may only be partially workable for some platforms.
blocking roku with a wildcard
yeah that won’t work
Hence the value in Perflyst’s repo

I pihole, but I just found out my Samsung TVs have a hardware cutoff switch for the microphones on the bottom right of the panel. Wish it had occurred to me to check sooner.
This is why we cannot have nice things
This is why we prefer non-“smart” things
Great. Now do any android or apple phone for the past 10+ years.
Situation with TVs way worse. Most non-chinese phones do not spy on you 24/7. Yes, some (if not all) major apps logs everything you do, but it not nearly close to what GN discovered with LG TVs: they literally record your screen and logs everything you say.
Also, on android you often have options to opt out or change software and sometimes even switch to different OS. Best option that I found for my LG C2 — is to just turn internet off.

See my post above, you can use pihole to just block your internet’s connection to LG’s ad telemetry.
