Seems too good to be true by the feature list.
Self-hosted platforms without federation usually get rekt by network effects and a big use-case for Discord is effortlessly joining large communities without having to constantly create accounts. I see that the README mentions guest accounts; do those work like they do on IRC servers? Joining an IRC server with a guest account back in the day wasn’t a particularly bad experience.
Seems too good to be true by the feature list.
Well, it’s vibecoded, so it’s going to be a maintenance nightmare if it tries to be more than a proof-of-concept.
I’ve recently discovered Armada, which seems to check all my boxes. I didn’t see any indications that ai is used anywhere, but some chucklefuck will chime in and show me where the ai is, because that’s what always happens with software I like.
Do you have a link for it? There are quite a few projects out there called Armada.
:sigh: more slopcode.
Just use Fluxer. It’s more mature, more popular, and no slopcode.
Or stoat!
Stoat is fine but nowhere near as good, and has no plans to federate
+1 to stoat (though still not sold on the new name)
Waiting for screen sharing, and someone to help test from my discord that I’d like to close, sadly every game I follow is on discord
Yeah I’ve seen you post about Fluxer and I saw that it also seemed to be slop coded. With 12m lines of code published in the last 3 months by one person. Seems like slop all the way down.
Its not. They just use a backend server and then push it.
Looking through the commits, a lot of it is localizations (.po files), which do appear to be generated. Of course, using a large language model to translate text to another language doesn’t really seem like a problem.
Code-wise, the thing I’d find suspicious is the frequency of commits. They aren’t very big, but there’s a ton of them.
Things are about to get interesting. I’m in the anti-AI fuck slop crowd but watching this I can’t help but laugh. I hope the rich are worried.
I’ll admit I was in the anti-AI crowd for big projects, though I do use it for homelab tinkering and fine-tuning systems. But recently, someone told Adobe “F U, I’m not paying your tax” and vibe-coded their entire product suite in about a week, then open-sourced it on GitHub. That changed my thinking, I knew it was going to eventually happen the rich can only enshitify for so long before the poor rise up.
Talented people are finding it and they will make it more functional. As the rough edges get worked out someone, because we live in a capitalist hellscape, will add a paid hosted cloud option for people who don’t want to self-host. Adobe will fight the first few servers, but for each one they take down, new ones will pop up. Eventually Adobe will have to fold and accept the Bitwarden/Vaultwarden model: open source with paid hosting and features for convenience.
Some time after I started homelabbing, de-googling, and de-appleing I realized I needed a new password manager I found Vaultwarden so I was using that, I was happy with that but found it so frustrating that I could not use it away from my LAN not that I had moved the majority of my passwords yet but I wanted to use it away from LAN, so I found Bitwarden. I was later talking to someone and they asked “so you went from using free apps (Apple passwords, and Authy) to using paid?” I had no idea paid for options existed at the time and asked them what was not free? They listed off things I was already using it for and said no I have all those, I was so confused as to not knowing that vaultwarden gave you all the premium features of bitwarden but for free.
We’ve had hand-coded “F U Adobe” products for a very long time but people keep going back to Adobe anyway.
