Classic Google.
Almost every Pixel phone generation has had some kind of common hardware defect.
Their Nexus phones too, but at least then they were priced accordingly!
For good reason - Google’s firmware and quality control are absolute shit. I have a Pixel 10 and there’s hardly a day goes by that I’m not dealing with multiple problems.
Last week I was out of the country with no access to wifi and a very limited roaming data plan. Without notification Google pushed a 1.4GB firmware file on mobile data which used up all my plan’s remaining data.
My BT speakers work fine with older versions of Android, but with the Pixel on Android 16 and 17 one speaker has 2 volume levels, off and 100%, the other speaker blasts at full volume momentarily when playback starts. Plenty of other bugs too.
I’ve always wondered why the Google employees I’ve known have carried Iphones. After purchasing a Pixel I understand.
The only reason to buy Pixels is GOS.
News pixels starting with 11, even that’s not a plus point. GOS is instead launching a phone in partnership with motorola.
I don’t buy bleeding edge. Motorola is not yet available and so premium it will be dearer than Pixels.
I don’t think I’ve seen a positive review of these things yet. Not really looking, but everything I’ve seen in passing sure ain’t selling me.
Maybe if they sell them cheap and you can image Linux on there it would be neat, but not sure who would want it otherwise, like the Chromebooks before
Like chromebooks, these are probably aimed primarily at educational institutions
Ding-ding-ding! Windows and MacOS are super easy to centrally manage - even to the extent that a user can perform a full wipe and reinstall from generic installer and the device will still be fully managed - but iOS and GoogleChromeOSBookOS take it to a whole other level. Any IT department worth their salt can take ten thousand ChroogleBooks from shopping basket to fully configured and ready to use without even having to unbox them.
only usefull thing about googlebooks is when people start to throw them away, and someone finds a way to install linux on them, there will be a new option for an arm laptop, and a cheap one at that
Is it some custom google os? Who needs that
It’s Android.
