I used to have a kindle and it would periodically lock up and I’d have to do a hard reset and then re-download all my books. It was extremely frustrating. I finally got tired of it and ditched ti for a Kobo Clara. Whats nice about the Kobo is that it doesn’t have all the janky DRM bullshit, and it just works. You can load up books or pdfs from any source. So much happier now!

The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, enacted the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that the Federal Government “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses and identification cards.” The Act and implementing regulations establish minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibit federal agencies from accepting for certain official purposes noncompliant driver’s licenses and identification cards, both physical and digital (also known as Mobile Driver’s Licenses, or “mDLs”).
The official purposes covered by the Act and regulations are:
Accessing certain federal facilities; Boarding Federally regulated commercial aircraft; and Entering nuclear power plants.
So Real ID was designed to be good enough for people to use to enter a nuclear power plant, but apparently not reliable enough to identify someone to confirm citizenship? Sounds like some racist bullshit.
I’m wondering how much of it is the distraction factor? In an effort to keep my weight in check, I’ve shifted to biking as my main form of transportation to get around the city. I live an area of higher elevation, so pretty much anytime I go anywhere over a mile or so away, I’m in for a serious hill climb on the way home. I listen to a lot of music, and one thing I’ve noticed is that it distracts me from noticing the effort, especially on the long, steep grinding hill home. I’ll be rocking out, and next thing I know I’m at the top. Maybe having a vibrator jiggling your leg tendon is doing more or less the same thing by distracting you from muscular strain, etc.?

The site is loaded with engagement bots, and that has increased exponentially in the last year. Before I left, I was constantly getting pinged with inane questions to try to elicit a response (engagement). So much different here.

Unfortunately, we’re all getting used to having cameras pointed at us at all times. Ring cameras, flock cameras, tesla cameras, etc., etc. We already live in the Panopticon. There is no opt-out, and government personnel can access many if not all of these sources, and target specific people for chronic surveillance. Things will only get worse, unfortunately.
