I want to see durability tests on the internal screen, because in the brief time that I owned a foldable phone, I was extremely reluctant to use the inner screen due to anxiety about damaging it. As I recall, even the newest Fold from Samsung still has an inner screen that can be scratched with a fingernail, which is, frankly, completely unacceptable for something that needs to be used with your fingers.
I still see no utility or appeal in foldable phones
I love them but am not willing to pay more than a token sum for the feature.

On top of that, there’s the looming arrival of Apple’s first foldable. While Android devices will benefit from the legitimacy that an “iPhone Fold” will bring to the foldable market, it’s also going to bury anyone who didn’t get a head start. Motorola not only needs to convince prospective foldable buyers that it has a better option than Samsung and Google – which I feel it does – but also not to wait for Apple’s release, a conversation we wouldn’t have had if Motorola had launched this device a year ago, or even back in January when it was first unveiled.
Key point here, and one I agree with. As soon as Apple releases a foldable, the others are cooked.
Except their partnership with GrapheneOS. Obviously still a tiny minority, but let’s hope it will keep growing. This Pixel hardware is sad, compared to what Apple has to offer. I hope the future Moto flagships will be better.
Being the 2nd best selling foldable after Apple would still be pretty good for Motorola.
I don’t really associate the privacy/security crowd with foldable phones, though. They still seem to be a very niche product that only interests the “tech enthusiast” crowd and people looking for a status symbol. I feel like most GrapheneOS users would be more than happy with a standard Pixel or Motorola without any of the flashy/gimmicky stuff.
Agreed, I’m still not sure myself if I will go for the flip-phone style foldable or a regular brick. I like the idea of a small phone, but am probably a niche within a niche group
Nothing about that device is worth $1900.
