My main issue is that unlike novels or random documents, comic books (I mainly read euro graphic novel) are too small for my screen, and zooming in doesn’t feel comfortable to keep track of where I am on the page

I tried various readers but haven’t found one that satisfies me, I’m wondering if there exists some that are specifically developed with comic books in mind?

To be clear I’m nit looking for platforms like webtoon, I have my own epubs and pdfs, I just need to find an interface that works for the medium

I’m not even sure what changes would be needed so sorry in advance if I cant really word my needs, thanks for your input/insight though!!

I really like koreader for manga. It’s designed to support eink so it has a really clean interface thought it can feel clunky in the menus. Even so, it’s really customizable and open source!

As for a small screen, I’m not sure what else can help, but I understand the plight. Personally I feel the ui staying out of the way goes a long way.

+1 for koreader, just bought a used Kindle and installed it with Zen and it is perfect for reading on the 6" screen. Can’t attest to manga/comics on it but it’s a great reader.

I think its a dead project unfortunately, but maybe someone will fork it.

Seenva will detect text and frames and use smart zooming to make comics readable on smaller screens.

Lately I’ve been self-hosting my books with Audiobookshelf and using their app for epubs, PDFs, cbzs, and m4b files, the last one being actual audio books. Before that I was using Lithium for epub files and it worked quite well.

I use FBReader. It can process CBRs. It reads ePubs and pdfs just fine too. I’ve been using it for years now. It has a lot bad reviews though. Alternatively I use Librera, it also processes CBRs and CBZs.

Mihon with a local library us by far the best. Problem is it doesn’t do pdf, so you’d have to find a way to convert to epub, or ideally cbz.
