If you fill the tank completely (including crew, fuel and ammo compartments) with clay or sand it probably won’t explode any more when hit.
Replacing all those munitions with clay makes a big difference.
Extra points if you can pump all the air out, then it can’t even catch fire!
Why do we care? It’s great that they’re doing more stupid stuff.
But this reads like it’s trying to convince Russians not to do this because it actually works. Maybe it’s a double psych op.Possible its more about creating a superstition that it works to give soldiers courage. For example helmets were more about shrapnel and debris from explosions rather than bullets. They still gave soldiers the confidence to go over a trench. Even if the direct hit protection was minimal.
Material and engineering has made them better able to take direct rounds, but not all helmets are rated for it.
I’m guessing they’re also like bike helmets in that they’re useless after a single impact.
When you are continually put in life threatening situations with little agency over whether you might die or not, turns out some people don’t behave perfectly rationally!
Commenting on the internet isn’t going to effect that, there is a long history of soldiers in frontline combat doing things because they believed would keep them alive that very much did not.
