On another post somewhere, someone said “It shouldn’t be a crime if it’s objectively hilarious”.

    I think that applies here.

But according to police, driving an unlicensed motorized vehicle — even one that’s made for a child — on a road meant for full-sized cars is against the law.

You gotta be f’ing kidding me. No exceptions exist for engine power or size? Are they arresting all the 5 year olds driving in the street?

Are e-bikes and scooters not legal? Those have electric motors that are likely more powerful than that.

Seems to me a stern “go home, you knucklehead” would be the appropriate response.

No, they aren’t arresting the 5 year Olds, and they explained it.

Typically when you find someone with a suspended license driving something like this barbie car, it’s a way they think they can get around the law.

This guy, to his credit, took it in stride.

But only because they aren’t, not because it’s not illegal.

Lincoln said of the arresting officer. “He was filling out all of this paperwork, saying ‘This is my first time!’”

the poor police officer had to start his job with this case

If its on the road in BC, it needs to be licensed with ICBC, unless you’re a recent transplant from elsewhere. Exceptions exist for e-scooters and ebikes, but they also aren’t technically allowed on open road.

ICBC’s base insurance looks expensive, but it delivers better base insurance than most other places extended insurance.

It is also likely a matter of registration and safety.

Yeah, it is a funny sight. Unless you are another car on the road. Basically all the safety assists won’t work with what is a glorified plastic dolley and you have someone whose head is basically at bumper level on even sane vehicles. Its similar to how good drivers actually slow down or veer into the oncoming traffic lane (assuming it is empty) when they are overtaking someone wobbling back and forth in the bike lane.
